Biography
I hold a Master of Science Degree in Oriental Medicine. I am licensed to
practice
Naturopathic Medicine in Germany, am a
NCCAOM Diplomate in Acupuncture
and Chinese Herbology and and
was
a licensed acupuncturist in Texas. I graduated in March 1997
from Europe's most prestigious college specializing in Complementary and
Alternative Medicine, the Naturopathic College Josef Angerer
(Heilpraktikerschule
Josef Angerer) in Munich, Germany.
During my second year (1995) at Josef Angerer I studied
treatment
modalities like acupuncture (Five Element Acupuncture, TCM
and Medical Acupuncture), massage and chiropractic. I
used these skills in the student clinic for the treatment of pain and depression
in conjunction with other treatment modalities, like trigger point injections
and homeopathy.
I concurrently did an internship at an Ob/Gyn office
performed acupuncture treatments, consultations in homeopathy, herbology and
nutrition, laboratory work, clinical management. After completing my licensing
exam with the German Health Department in 1996, I was fully accredited to
utilize acupuncture as a treatment modality.
My specializations using this form of treatment included treating women
suffering from painful gynecological disorders, infertility and problems during
pregnancy.
After moving to the United States in 1997 I did an internship at a Chiropractic
and Pain Management Clinic in Dallas. I continued my focus in the field of pain
management and frequently participated in meetings of the Fibromyalgia and the
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (RSD) Support groups. I advised group members in
lifestyle and dietary changes, and treated their pain and secondary symptoms
with naturopathic treatment modalities while in private practice as a
naturopath. I specialized also in Gynecology and Obstetrics.
During
my studies (1998-2001) at the
Academy of Oriental Medicine
(AOMA), Texas, I was able to continue utilizing my medical acupuncture skills
and as well as enhancing my skills in Traditional
Chinese Medicine, ear acupuncture and Chinese
herbology
and Oriental bodywork (Zen Shiatsu) during my practice
at the Academy of Oriental Medicine patient clinic. My graduate thesis at AOMA
was entitled "Zen Shiatsu in the Treatment of Chronic Pain: Fibromyalgia and
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy". I utilized multiple treatment modality skills for
people experiencing musculoskeletal diseases,
repetitive strain injuries and pain related to cancer. Altogether I have
accumulated 6000 hours of various health related
university courses. Additionally, I have had exposure to Western Medicine
through my studies, work in clinics and my association with physicians and
allied health professionals.
My professors at AOMA
Dr. Ma, Dr. Wang,
Dr. Wu,
R. Laguna,
Dr. Shen,
Dr. He
In 2001 I co-founded with Dr. Michael Capobianco
the Austin Reflex Sympathetic
Dystrophy/Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Support Group and continue informing
group members about studies on RSD, changes in laws and regulations and finding
health care providers. I also
volunteered at the
Travis County Medical Alliance in
Texas, working on projects like “Baby think it over” to prevent teenage
pregnancies.
I received my acupuncture license from the
Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners
in 2002. I practiced Integrative Medicine in my private professional practice,
with acupuncture, Chinese herbs and neuromuscular techniques (including massage
and osteopathy) being the most frequent utilized modalities.
My specialties continued to be pain management, gynecology and obstetrics.
As well as focusing on my private health care practice, I am also an educator. I
was certified as a Continuing Education Provider and Massage Therapy Instructor
through the Texas State Department of Health. I offered Continuing Education
Classes to Registered Massage Therapist and other holistic health practitioners.
My courses include Myofascial Release Techniques for the painful shoulder, upper
and middle back, and low back and buttocks muscles and their trigger points. I
also write and publish articles related to health care and pain management. One
of my articles, "The
Fifth Vital Sign: Pain," was published in Acupuncture Today. It was
written to assist acupuncturists in the evaluation and understanding of chronic
pain.
I continue studying conventional medicine by attending workshops, reading
articles and research papers published in The Medical Letter, Audio Digest of
Internal Medicine and Journal Watch. I also review literature related to
Complementary and Alternative Medicine published in Acupuncture Today, the
Herbalgram, and German naturopathic magazines.
Now I am practicing in
my clinic for Naturopathic Medicine in Koblenz, Germany, offering traditional Chinese and Japanese Medicine,
chiropractic and osteopathy, massages and neuromuscular therapies. In my
practice I offer also medical wellness (preventative treatments to deal with
stress and tension and help to relax) and beauty treatments, like
acupuncture-facelift and facial massages. I also attended the Holistic Beauty
School Kutz-Breimer (Berufsfachschule für Kosmetik Kutz-Breimer) in Germany and
am a state licensed esthetician since 1989.
